In an age when we obsess over the Paris Hiltons and the Lindsay Lohans of the world (who have never done a thing worth mentioning) we tend to neglect those that have struggled for others and who have fought tirelessly and bravely on behalf of the issues most dearest to their hearts. I want to quickly recognize two people because I admire them greatly.
Please, even if you aren't thinking of going Vegetarian (let alone Vegan) or even hate all plant life, give Colleen Patrick-Goudreau a listen (or read one of her Fab books, "The Vegan Table" or "The Joy of Vegan Baking"). You can find her on iTunes under podcasts and then "health." For the last three years, Colleen has been producing her podcast, "Vegetarian Food for Thought" and brilliantly establishes her premise (which I kindly take from her own statement) "empowering people to make informed food choices and debunk myths about Vegetarianism and Animal Rights." Her kind, understanding voice, her gleeful expression of love and support of the animals of the world and the non-aggressive tone she takes in doing so makes this, seriously, the most relaxing and informative of podcasts I've EVER listened to. Granted, some of the material is hard to (pardon the pun) digest, but I implore you to even just listen to the nutrition-centered podcasts that shed light on how to integrate more healthful foods into your diet. Her efforts on behalf of those that have no voice should be commended. Adore her :)
Another tireless advocate is Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign. Not only is he an advocate for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals, but he was also CEO of EMILY's List, a political action committee that helped elect nearly 120 pro-choice women to office. I know he's tireless because of the sheer amount of emails I get from him on a daily basis :) HRC's mission statement, "Envisioning and America where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people are insured equality and embraced as full members of the American family at home, at work and in every community" says it all.
That's it. A quick one...just thought I'd throw this all out there.
Peace.
